Files of the investigation of SPCATB administrators regarding the Waddles case is now in the public domain.  They can be viewed at the Pork Butt Pastures FB page. Evidence for probable cause for arrest of criminal charges is solid, but the investigation and pending arrest was shut down.

Dear Police Chief Loux,

I am writing urging you to reopen the investigation for animal cruelty on behalf of Waddles the pig who was allowed to roast at the SPCA Tampa Bay in July 2025.

A review of comprehensive interviews of SPCA administrators by your investigator clearly indicate reckless, if not purposeful neglect of Waddles in full view of multiple staffers.  The investigation identifies an absence of documented medical attention for 3rd degree burns sustained over a seven-day duration during a heat advisory without shade.

Why did your office shut down this investigation and no arrest made for overwhelming evidence of animal cruelty?

What, if any, influence (either directly or indirectly) does SPCA Tampa Bay CEO Martha Boden have over the police chief that would compel him to close the case and dismiss a pending arrest?

Largo, Florida known as the “City of Progress” is now known as “The City that shields those with influence who commit animal cruelty.”

Is this really the “community engagement” you endorse? Is this the legacy you want for the Largo community? This case has attracted national attention, especially thanks to this decision

Shutting down this case empowers those who indulge in animal cruelty, betrays the community, the city administration as well as sabotages the department’s reputation.

I want to believe you have the courage to correct this

An opportunity is available for you to make this right. Reopen the Waddles case and arrest the guilty parties to end this embarrassing travesty of justice.

If not, resign. The community does not deserve leadership that demonstrates selective enforcement.

Respectfully,

Warren Patitz

Former Pinellas County resident
