The SPCA Tampa Bay proclaims

Misrepresentation or selective use of our data—regardless of disclaimers—can cause real and measurable harm. SPCA Tampa Bay does not permit the unauthorized alteration or misuse of our statistics.

We are fortunate that the SPCATB “welcomes questions from anyone seeking clarity and context.”

Question:  Who misrepresents or selectively (mis)uses the SPCA statistics?

Answer: The SPCATB administration itself misrepresents and selectively misuses its own data. In the words of Otto Ray, the agency is “juggling facts, words, figures, numbers and everything else”.

Question: What is real and measurable harm?  Is it a cost in animals’ lives?  Or, is it the decline in donations? Is it a heightened question of agency transparency/honesty? Is it a compromise to the fund raising and/or executives’ salaries and benefits package?  Is it that the executive’s star is fading? Are these the concerns this statement is suggesting?

Answer: Real and measurable harm is the insult to the animal welfare industry.  It is the loss of public trust that is self-imposed by the conduct and practices of the SPCA’s administration. It is a betrayal and emotional distress imposed upon the good-hearted volunteers and staff of the SPCATB.

Question:  How much deeper will the board of directors allow the SPCATB administration to sink?

Question: How much longer will the board of directors allow the administration to mislead the donors?

Question: How much longer will the board of directors allow the administration to continue to embarrass the reputation, integrity and efficacy of the organization?

Observation:  If the SPCATB Boden administration worked as hard at being honest, trustworthy and effective on behalf of the animals of Pinellas County as it does at spending time , as in the words of Otto Ray, “juggling facts, words, figures, and everything else” for public/donor perception, there could be meaningful advancement to reduce the killing of adoptable animals.  Florida ranks 4th in the nation for pet shelter deaths.

Note:  There are at least two petitions circulating to remove Martha Boden as CEO of SPCA Tampa Bay, both highlighting concerns about her leadership and the treatment of animals under her administration.

The SPCA Tamp Bay Behind the Kennel Doors has been reporting on the Boden administration for years
