Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been indicted along with others for dor fighting. A large scale dog fighting operation on his rural Virginia property has been under federal investigation for several months. The 18 page indictment details his participation in housing, training, gambling and killing of pit bull fight dogs. Vick is a former #1 NFL draft pick; his jersey is a bestseller. Initial reaction is heavily against him in the sports and general media. Vick may face suspension by NFL commissioner Goodell or his team owner and could lose endorsement contracts. The Humane Society of the United States has condemned this form of despicable animal cruelty and now calls for Vick’s suspension. Move to ACT strongly opposes dog fighting in Indianapolis. The Vick case will hopefully put local dog fighting back in the public’s conciousness. MtA agains calls for Indianapolis’ professional sports teams to publically oppose dog fighting.
